Homeopathic remedies are the most unique, and safest medicines in the world. Many of the remedies used have been thoroughly tested on healthy people for many years. The very special preparation of homeopathic remedies makes them quite unique in the world of medicine. The result of this process is that homeopathic remedies are safe for pregnant women, newborns, children, seniors and the seriously ill.

How Does Homeopathy Differ From Naturopathy?

Naturopathy covers a wide spectrum of alternative therapies of which homeopathy is one part. A homeopath has been extensively trained in this discipline, where as a naturopath will study a variety of methods to develop a treatment regime for the patient. Naturopaths can be likened to the GP’s of alternative medicine.

How Does Homeopathy Differ From Conventional Medicine?

Conventional medicine is based upon the theory of opposites (antipathic) or having no relation to the disease symptoms (allopathic). It’s treatment attempts to control or suppress symptoms. Homeopathy is based upon the principle of “like cures like” or similars. If a substance can cause specific symptoms in healthy people then it can be used medicinally to cure those same symptoms in a person who is sick. Thus the homeopath regards the patient’s symptoms as the body’s natural attempt to restore balance. Homeopathic remedies stimulate the body into healing itself. With the homeopathic remedy there are no side effects and the person is restored to health naturally.

Homeopathy also recognizes that each person expresses his or her disease in a unique manner. That is why two people with the same disease will not necessarily receive the same remedy. Unlike conventional medicine where “one size fits all”, a homeopath chooses a remedy that matches the unique disease expression of the individual.

Homeopathy around the World

Homeopathy is one of the most popular form of medicine in the world. In Canada the past 20yrs have seen the emergence of a handful of professional schools country wide. Today there are approximately 500 registered Homeopaths in Ontario alone! There has been tremendous growth in the past 5yrs as more and more people are becoming dissatisfied with modern medicine and are seeking alternatives.

In Europe, Asia and South America homeopathy is readily accepted along side modern medicine. In England there are 5 homeopathic hospitals and homeopaths commonly share medical clinics in cooperation with Allopathic doctors. Veterinary homeopathy is also very prominent.

In Indian, Pakistan and Sri Lanka homeopathy is considered as a primary health care system with over 300,000 registered practitioners – many of whom are medical doctors. Some of the most brilliant homeopaths in the world reside in Europe and Asia.

Homeopathic Treatment: What to Expect

An initial interview with a homeopath will usually last approx. 2hrs. In this interview the patient is encouraged to freely and fully describe their experience of their illness. From this point the Homeopath will flesh out the “picture” asking questions involving the patient’s state of mind, fears, sensations, body functions, quality of sleep etc… Many patients question the relevance of this type of investigation in relation to their illness. Homeopathy is holistic and because of this, the patient is always treated as a whole.

Typically a remedy will be sent shortly after your consultation, along with instructions for taking it. At this time, it is best to arrange a follow up appointment.

**It is important to realize that Homeopathic treatment is a process and not just a one shot cure-all. Your commitment and diligence is required to achieve maximum results.**
